Traditional FICO typically needs about six months of history and an account reporting before it will even produce a score. That leaves real buyers on the sideline: recent PCS families at Robins AFB, first-time buyers with thin files, and anyone rebuilding after a rough stretch. VantageScore is a newer model that can still return a usable score from a much thinner file — sometimes from a single trade line and a short history. For those borrowers, a missing FICO or a disqualifying FICO may still have a path to pre-approval.
